Citizens Advice launch report on understanding the use and non-use of Welsh language services

Consumer research carried out by Beaufort has fed into a new report published by Citizens Advice Cymru which examines fluent Welsh speaking consumers’ experience of using Welsh language services, their views on the accessibility of those services and how they would like to see Welsh language services delivered in future. The report is published in the context of the Welsh Language Measure (Wales) 2011, which establishes the Welsh language as an official language in Wales and provides a new statutory framework for the development of services in Welsh.

The research focused on service providers such as banks, building societies, gas, electricity, phone, television and broadband suppliers and postal providers, who are likely to be subject to the Measure. Fieldwork was carried out by Beaufort in two stages: six extended focus groups across Wales with fluent Welsh speakers followed by 505 phone interviews with a representative sample of fluent Welsh speakers and took place between November 2013 and February 2014.
